Welcome to our new mPulse UI

The mPulse team is excited to present our freshly redesigned mPulse UI! It is now out of beta, and features numerous improvements over the Legacy UI, elevating the customer experience.

Our development team has invested significant effort designing a new interface that we hope better suits what our customers need and want, and presents RUM data in more approachable and easy to understand ways.

We are transitioning what we have been calling the New mPulse UI to become the official and default UI; going forward it will be simply called the mPulse UI. The old interface will now be called the Legacy UI.

Why a new mPulse UI?

Our Legacy UI, introduced in 2006, continues to serve its purpose, offering stability and familiarity to our customers that have been using our product for years.

However, as technology evolves, the Legacy UI's limitations have become more apparent to our developers and customers, prompting us to consider what updates or alternatives we could offer to meet modern demands. Continuing to develop the Legacy UI to add modern features became increasingly difficult, so our development team made the decision to pivot focus towards building a new UI (on top of modern development tools and practices!).

Updating the user interface has presented an opportunity to refine the mPulse application, enhance the user experience, introduce new features, and improve its visual appeal.

To help us focus on what matters most, we conducted research with our customers to understand what they desired in a RUM analytics tool.

The new mPulse UI has been in development for several years, and has now reached a state where we think all customers will enjoy using it, offering many new features vs. the Legacy UI (see below!).

We realize its development (and beta program) have taken much longer than what we, and our customers, had hoped for. This was due to a number of factors, but primarily because the team had to balance development of the new UI vs. other features, fixes, and major infrastructure improvements that were underway. As the mPulse UI is now coming out of beta, we are in a better position to devote our energy towards continuing to improve it.

Can customers go back-and-forth?

Of course! Customers have the flexibility to smoothly transition between the mPulse UI and the Legacy UI with just a click.

This convenient option allows users to navigate between the two interfaces as desired, offering enhanced functionality and aesthetics in the new mPulse UI, or the familiar layout of the Legacy UI.

Whether exploring new features or reverting to the familiarity of the previous interface, customers can easily switch back and forth to suit their preferences and workflow.

To choose either interface, simply click on the account menu in the upper-right corner and select the interface you want:

Why would customers want to go back-and-forth?

Not all features and workflows from the Legacy UI are available in the mPulse UI; some will remain in the legacy system, while some important features are still in development for the mPulse UI and will be enabled for customers as soon as development is complete.

Customers can continue to access familiar workflows of the Legacy UI, while gradually transitioning to the new and improved capabilities offered by the mPulse UI.

What is the default? How can I set it?

Customers can choose to make the mPulse UI their default interface for a personalized experience that matches their preferences.

To do so, open the Preferences screen (via the account drop-down menu), and choose either New mPulse or Legacy mPulse:

What are the new features to explore in the mPulse UI?

Here are the new features in the mPulse UI. We will dive into these in our future blog posts:

  • Performance Explorer: An insightful platform that allows mPulse customers to understand and analyze the performance of their applications in a comprehensive and user-friendly manner.
  • Dashboard Customization:
    • Filter Templates: Define and save groups of filters that can be reused within the mPulse UI and easily applied to dashboards, sections, and widgets.
    • Selectors: Provide specific Timers, Metrics, or Group By options to any widget field inputs with a matching type. Use dashboard, section, or widget level selectors to control various inputs.
    • Sections: Horizontal dashboard dividers that can include title, filters, selectors, and the app override feature.
    • Improved Data Visualization Tools: Interactive widgets for more dynamic data analysis.

Stay tuned as we explore these exciting new features in detail.

What are the new features to explore with the August 2024 release?

For our August 2024 mPulse UI release, we have many new exciting updates:

  • Performance Bar in Table widget: Tables have the ability to display any timers and certain metrics that can show a performance bar.
  • Generate New Widget from your dashboard: Users have an ability to generate a New Widget directly from the currently open dashboard and can then save this dashboard with the included widget.
  • Access Waterfall dashboard from any dashboard: Users can quickly access the Waterfall dashboard from any custom or system dashboard while preserving the selected filters.
  • Select your User Interface: Users can now choose their preferred (default) user interface: New mPulse or Legacy mPulse.
  • Duplicate a selected widget from the dashboard: Users can duplicate widgets directly from the dashboard.

What’s next for the mPulse UI?

The mPulse team is continuing to invest in new features for the mPulse UI. We are also still migrating some parts of the Legacy UI to the mPulse UI.

Here are a few of the remaining Legacy UI workflows that will soon be available in the mPulse UI:

  • Alerts: An alerting system that notifies customers about critical performance issues and anomalies.
  • Public Sharing of Dashboards: Customers will have the ability to share mPulse UI dashboards publicly for monitoring purposes.
